Claude Code
Install Claude Code, point it at Roteo, verify the connection, and run it on Claude or DeepSeek.
Claude Code talks to the Messages API, so you can route it through Roteo by pointing it at the gateway with your key.
1. Install Claude Code
Already installed? Check the version with claude --version.
2. Connect it to Roteo
Use the gateway origin as the base URL (Claude Code appends /v1 itself) and your sk_ key as the auth token. This sets it for the current terminal session, then starts Claude Code:
To make it persistent across every project, add the values to ~/.claude/settings.json instead, then restart Claude Code:
3. Verify
Run claude, then /status. You should see the gateway listed as the Anthropic base URL. Ask a simple question. If you get a reply, you are connected, and the call appears in your dashboard.
Use DeepSeek V4.1 Flash
Claude Code can also run on deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017, DeepSeek's open-weight coding model, at a fraction of Claude's price. Same key, same wallet: only the model changes.
Add it to the /model picker. Claude Code only lists gateway models whose ID contains claude, so add DeepSeek yourself with modelPicker (Claude Code 2.1.242 or later). This is a complete ~/.claude/settings.json: paste your sk_ key into ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN, and set ANTHROPIC_MODEL to the model new sessions start on, such as claude-opus-5-5 or deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017[1m]. Left empty, Claude Code uses its default.
Already have a settings.json? Merge these keys into it instead of replacing the file. Restart Claude Code (in VS Code, Reload Window): DeepSeek appears after the built-in models, and your Claude models stay as they are. You can also type /model deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017[1m] at any time.
Or run everything on it. Set it for every model slot Claude Code uses, so its background calls and subagents run on it too:
With this, the Opus, Sonnet and Haiku rows in /model run DeepSeek too. To use Claude, type its full ID, for example /model claude-opus-5-5. In the VS Code extension the model button keeps the Opus name in this setup, so there, use the picker setup above and set ANTHROPIC_MODEL to deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017[1m] to start on DeepSeek.
The [1m] suffix tells Claude Code the model has a 1M-token context window. Without it, Claude Code assumes a smaller window and compacts the conversation early. It removes the suffix before it calls Roteo.
You can switch between DeepSeek and Claude with /model in the middle of a conversation, in either direction. Roteo adapts the history so the next model carries on.
What to expect on DeepSeek:
- It reads images (screenshots, PNGs), but not PDFs.
- Web search is not available.
- It thinks when a task needs it, and answers simple turns directly.
- It is paid from your wallet at DeepSeek's price. Promotional credit covers Claude and GPT only.
- Every request costs at least $0.001, and most Claude Code turns are small, cached ones: expect about $0.001 per turn.
- Claude Code's own cost display (
/cost) prices every model as if it were Claude, so it shows far more than you pay. Your dashboard shows the real charge.
Bill a specific chain
To settle a session on a particular chain, set a custom header:
Valid values are base, arbitrum, solana and robinhood. Omit it to use your dashboard default; every response echoes the chain it billed on. See Billing chains.
